  1. We never had word tins, but I did have an Old Holborn tobacco tin that I kept my ‘treasures’ in as a child. Some foreign coins, a WW2 medal, elastic bands in various colours, and a stone from a beach that looked like a pig.

  2. My children who are now 40 & 37 used to come home from their first school with old tobacco tin “word tins” when they first started to read. The first word was owl. The school provided the tins. I wonder where from. My grand-daughter has just started at the same school. So far there has been no sign of a tin.
