Signs of the Times

I’m not sure if house sales are falling (it doesn’t seem to be the case) but the marketing departments of these three housebuilders seem to be in an arms race putting up signs.

Burleyfields in Stafford has an ancient lane edged by oak and hawthorn.  Sadly, it also has around 25 signs in just over 100 metres.

In an age of smartphones and Google maps I’m sure buyers can find their way without all these unnecessary notices telling them to have a safe journey and call again.

The signs are tacked to lampposts, hanging and concreted into the earth.

Charles Church, Taylor Wimpey and David Wilson Homes all seem determined to win The Battle of the Signs.

This is a busy road. Surely there are some issues with this level of pointless and unnecessary signage.

  1. Perhaps local people should put up alternative signs mentioning there will be flooding around the new homes, no spaces at schools, and no appointments with a GP or dentist? Looks to me as if some council officials are on the house builders’ payroll.

    Best wishes, Pete.

      1. It’s happening around here too. New estates popping up everywhere, and no increased infrastructure to cope with the additional population.

  2. We seem to have totally inadequate control over signage being erected. Made even worse now that so many properties are let, so we have permanent “To Let” signs, in groups of ten or more, along every road!

  3. Sign Wars! I suppose once one company puts one up the rest have to do the same to make sure their clients are not mistakenly pointed to their rivals. And who can afford a house anyway? 🤷‍♀️ 🤪
